CONTINUING EDUCATION FOCUS

Career Training

Growth as a professional never ends – learning is continual – development is ongoing.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to spend four, five or sometimes six years attending classes, studying, volunteering, participating in internships, enjoying campus activities and following a career-training path that can take several years.

Some people may not have the financial means to achieve an advanced degree. Others can’t relocate and set up residence in some other area to gain advanced training. Some workers find themselves displaced from a job they have held for decades and haven’t been in a classroom since high school. Oftentimes, people have a family to support and can’t leave the workplace in order to further their training.

Answering the call is the Continuing Education Department at Isothermal Community College, which is at the forefront of helping individuals train quickly for employment.

Continuing Education is the community’s source for adult learners who want to hone particular workplace skills, need certification in certain areas, improve their marketability or simply need a refresher course.

The Hospitality and Tourism Institute is a great example. These quick classes in Guest Service, Soft Skills and Career Readiness prepare students for careers in:

• Hotel and Resort Operations
• Food Services
• Event Planning
• Property Management and Private Club Operations
• Recreation and Equestrian Center Facilities
• Facility Maintenance and Security
