{"id":60,"date":"2023-03-24T19:59:53","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T19:59:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/isothermal.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2023-volume-8-issue-1\/icc-practical-nursing-to-celebrate-50th-anniversary\/"},"modified":"2023-05-05T02:38:48","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T02:38:48","slug":"icc-practical-nursing-to-celebrate-50th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isothermal.mycareerfocus.org\/spring-2023-volume-8-issue-1\/icc-practical-nursing-to-celebrate-50th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC Practical Nursing to celebrate 50th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">This summer when the newest group of practical nurses will graduate and receive their pins at Isothermal Community College, it will be the 50<sup>th<\/sup> group of new PNs to graduate the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The students, faculty, and staff of the program intend to celebrate in a big way at the the Foundation Performing Arts and Conference Center on Tuesday, July 18, at 2 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">\u201cHundreds of ICC students have celebrated their success in becoming a nurse because of this program,\u201d said Carole Koehler, one of the PN instructors. \u201cFamily and friends of the current class will be in attendance. If you are a graduate of the program, have been an instructor in the program, or want to show your appreciation for this celebration, we hope you will attend this momentous occasion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The Isothermal Practical Nursing program has been very successful in helping students become nurses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Since 2017, this program has a NCLEX pass rate of 98.5 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The Practical Nursing curriculum provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the needs of the individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential. Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Content emphasizes safe, individualized nursing care and participation in the interdisciplinary team while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation\/long term care\/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians\u2019 offices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">There are several ICC nursing programs. These include the Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing (RN), LPN to RN Bridge, and the RIBN program that allows ADN grads to earn BSN degrees through Western Carolina University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Dr. Kim Amos was named director of the ICC nursing programs in August 2022 (<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\"><a href=\"mailto:kamos@isothermal.edu\">kamos@isothermal.edu<\/a><\/span> or 828-395-1741).
